Your Medium URL is a link to your public profile page in the format yourname.medium.host, which you can share with others so they can read your latest stories and follow you on Medium. To learn more about your profile page, see this article.
Supported profile page URL schemes
Currently, Medium supports three different URL schemes for profile URLs.

Changing your username and profile URL
- On your homepage, click on your profile picture and click Settings.
- Click Username and subdomain.
- In the Username section, you can change your current username.
- To activate your subdomain, select Enable Medium subdomain URL.
- In the app, tap your profile picture on the bottom bar.
- Tap Settings in the top-right corner.
- Tap Account.
- Tap Username and subdomain.

What happens when you change your username?
- Your old profile link will stop working and no longer show your profile page. You should update any links to your profile page from other places (e.g., Twitter bios, email footers, etc.)
- Your existing stories will be re-directed when people visit old URLs.
- Any previous at-mentions of your name or username will still work and link to your profile page.
When you update your URL, Google and other search engines will also need to update your new profile page and post URLs in their search results. This process requires no action on your part and might take up to a few weeks, and it mostly depends on how popular the URLs are (for example, someone with more published stories, and thus more links, might get updated faster). Please note that this process is beyond Medium's control.
What happens when you enable your subdomain URL?
- Your old profile URL will automatically redirect to your new subdomain URL. For example, medium.host/@john will automatically redirect to john.medium.host.
- All of your story URLs will automatically redirect to the new URL scheme. This means that no story URLs will break after you enable your subdomain.
- You can disable your subdomain and switch back to your default URL scheme at any time.
